3D printing has been used in architectural practice since the 1990s, and while its use for producing design models continues to be adopted, the aesthetics and stylistic potential of its output remain unexplored by many architects.

Although 3D printing may be perceived as a complex process, there is no reason for a model not to reach its full potential from a lack of design engagement. Architects need not concern themselves with all the technicalities of 3D printing, but an understanding of the capabilities of the technology and the extent of what can be accomplished can increase a model’s value as a design and communication tool.

Some architects and builders have moved away from creating physical models because of the expense and time it takes to build an architectural model. However, with the introduction of 3D printing technology, physical models are once again practical.

From Architecture design to construction the 3D Printing technology is now starting to become a reality. Architects and contractors around the world are beginning to build the first 3D residential structures including houses and apartment buildings.

What makes 3D printing different than the current construction methods? The 3D printing is done using super-size printers which use a special concrete and composite mixture that is thicker than regular concrete, allowing it to be self-supporting as it sets, according to Dr. Berokh Khoshnevis, Director, University of Southern California, Advisory Council member of 3D PRINTING WORLD an initiative and concept formulated by Trinity Media & Marketing Solutions. 3D printed components do not have the same design constraints that may hinder current construction methods. In addition, curved concrete structures created through 3D printing can be hollow, using less material and creating space for building services inside the structural elements.

Not only could this revolutionize the construction industry, but the less expensive process could also affect housing affordability. Lower material usage and lower labor costs creates a less expensive construction method which can in turn create lower-cost housing.

China, Europe and Dubai have already started implementing this technology and have constructed buildings.

He was awarded Padma Bhushan in January 2016 by the Government of India. He is a graduate diploma in architecture from the University of Mumbai in 1975 and completed his graduation and MS in Architecture from Columbia University, New York City on a Tata scholarship.He studied at the Academy of Architecture in Mumbai and then went on to pursue a post graduation degree from Columbia University in New York.

He one of the leading Architects in the country. Hafeez Contractor started working in 1968 as an apprentice with his uncle T. Khareghat even while working toward his architecture degree. In 1977, he became the associate partner in the firm. Between 1977 and 1980, he was a visiting faculty member at the Academy of Architecture, Mumbai.

Professor Uday Athavankar,IDC, IIT Bombay

Committed to education and research on design and design-related consulting for over 30 years. 
Interested in the role of mental imagery and visualization in the design process and early creative thinking.

Mr.Samir D’monte - Founder, SDM Architects Owner, Clarity 3D Printing

Samir is an architect who studied at the School of Architecture, CEPT University , Ahmedabad. After graduating, he went on to work for large architecture – engineering consultancy firm Shirish Patel and Associates in Mumbai. In 2008 Samir founded his own design firm, SDM Architects. In 2012, Samir found out about 3D Printing, and was tremendously encouraged by its potential. He began to do his research to set up Clarity 3D Printing , an advanced 3D printing service , Mumbai in the year 2013. And the company is has expanded in the area of supplying 3D printing machines and other required services.

Vishal Rajendra Jariwala - Co Founder and Chairman - J Group Robotics

Vishal Rajendra Jariwala (born 8 June 1986) is an Entrepreneur, Chairman known for co-founding Jariwala Robotics Pvt. Ltd. Vishal is from Mumbai, India and is an MBA in Operations Management and an Engineering Graduate in Computer Science. Vishal had worked with Microsoft and Dell for a long period in multiple capacities like Delivery Leader, Compliance Head. He served as the representative and secretary for the university's student association. After first In the process of building Jariwala Robotics Pvt. Ltd. he had mastered in Business Administration, which enabled him to subsequently design a series of marketing applications. In 2013, he along with Vaibhav Jariwala co-founded Jariwala Robotics Pvt. Ltd., after they had a difficult time finding reliable and economic prototype and cast manufacturers in Mumbai. He came up with his venture of J Group Robotics related to 3D Printers, Rapid Prototyping, etc. He is the think tank for the growth and strategy planning of J Group Robotics. Over the years he has mastered the art of Client Servicing, Service Delivery and Engineering Solutions across varied industries.

Vaibhav Rajendra Jariwala - Co Founder and C.E.O.- J Group Robotics

An entrepreneur known for co-founding Jariwala Robotics Pvt. Ltd. Vaibhav is from Mumbai, India and is a Mechatronics Engineering Graduate from Lancaster University, UK.

After completion of degree Vaibhav had offers from many Multinational Companies however he chose to return home to start his own company in India. In 2013, he started Jariwala Robotics Pvt Ltd. as the C.E.O. and Co-Founder. He initially thought of starting with a product called 'The Roti Maker' but realized that the process of manufacturing his product would require a lot of capital since the costs included prototyping, designing and finally manufacturing was absolutely uncontrolled and heavy. Hence, he thought of resolving the root-cause of the problem and came up with the idea of making a Rapid-Prototyping Machine. This is how he started with his dream of manufacturing 3D Printers by the brand of J Group Robotics. Vaibhav got a scholarship for pursuing his engineering degree. He is a specialized engineer for National Aerospace Laboratory, The Indian Navy to develop and design 3D Printers for these reputed institutes.
